Reasons

there is a gulf between you and me
a million miles of roaring sea
no way for you to reach through to me
this is why we cannot be

we are so different you and me
alike we seem, but not to be
I am a separate entity
this is why we cannot be

and when we go out you and me
your hands run over lecherously
they make me feel so dirty
this is why we cannot be

and please stop asking about you and me
I’ve told you, yet persistently
you ask, I can’t handle being a “we”
and that is why this cannot be
